Do you have a Gift registry?
We are so grateful that many of you are travelling to celebrate with us. Your presence truly means the world to us.
As we will be relocating overseas after the wedding, we kindly request no physical gifts.
For those who wish, there will be a wishing well on the day, but please know your presence is the greatest gift.
Can I bring my kids/child?
We love your kids, but this will be an adults-only celebration (with the exception of a few tiny guests in the ceremony).
We hope you enjoy a well-earned night off to celebrate with us.
Will there be enough food at the wedding?
HELL YEAH! No plated alternate drop here, think giant cheese platter on arrival, and food truck style choose your own adventure dinner, dessert station - paired with drinks on arrival, open bar of wines, beers and favourite cocktails of the bride and groom PLUS and onsite Barista for delicious coffee!
What's the lastest date I should arrive for the wedding?
United States - I recommend arriving by Thursday at the latest to get onto the time zone after the long flights and if you need to sort anything on Friday ahead of the wedding.
New Zealand/ Other states - Friday is fine :) you're practically domestic!
Currency & the cost of things
Currency: Australian Dollar (AUD)
You get $1.43 to every Australia Dollar, or everything is roughly 70% for you guys. If something shows as $10 AUD its only $7 USD etc.
Prices: Tax is included in the price of items, so if something is $10, it’s $10. Tipping is not customary in Australia, so the final bill at a restaurant or café is the final price and all listed menu prices are the final price.
Temperature and Timezone
Temperature in August: Brisbane's weather in winter is generally dry and mild with temperatures between 10 - 22°C (approx. 50 - 70°F)
Timezone: +10GMT
Medical - What to do if you're sick on your trip in Australia
Doctor - Should the unexpected arise and you get sick whilst on your trip in Australia, a tourist medical appointment with a doctor will cost $130 AUD/ $85 USD. If you keep your receipt this can be reimbursed by your travel insurance. You can usually get seen that same day or the next day.
Telehealth - We also have a free Telehealth Appointments if you call 13 SICK on your mobile, and you will be connected to a doctor or a nurse to talk through any symptoms and recommendations for next steps.
If it's not an emergency, but it could be serious call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).
The Queensland Health phone line is operated by qualified staff who can give you confidential advice 24 hours a day 7 days a week (local call costs apply, calls from mobile phones may be charged at a higher rate). In an emergency always dial Triple Zero (000).
Medications – Pharmacy’s/Chemists in Australia are everywhere. Chemist Warehouse is a great one, super cheap and has everything from make up, hair, supplements and pharmacy in one (like CVS). Medications are reasonably priced and you can buy most over the counter without a script.
For example, an Asthma inhaler is $10AUD / $6 USD.
For Headaches – in Australia, Paracetamol is called Panadol, ibuprofen is Nurofen. $5-$10 a packet.
Emergencies / Ambulance
Australia has some of the best healthcare in the world, so please be rest assured, should an emergency arise you are in really good hands. In an emergency, please phone 000 from any phone (even if you don’t have service it will connect). This is our 911. The Australian Government has signed Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA) with the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden, The Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Norway, Slovenia, Malta and Italy.
These agreements let you use some health services for essential medical treatment while visiting Australia, including:
- free treatment as a public inpatient or outpatient in a public hospital
- any medicine funded under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
- Medicare benefits for out of hospital treatment provided by a doctor.
Reciprocal Health Care Agreements cover treatment that’s medically essential. That means any ill health or injury that happens while you're in Australia and you need to have treated before you go home. The amount covered depends on the individual requirements of the agreement for your country. The U.S. doesn't have an agreement with Australia, so American visitors typically don't get Medicare benefits for hospital or medical care. Although are hospital fees are not as high as the U.S. you could be up for a few thousand out of pocket if you don’t have travel insurance, so please ensure you have adequate travel insurance. If you have a travel credit card, this can include travel insurance if you booked your flight with that credit card.
